Founded in 2012 by David Hopper and Peter Seaden-Jones, ETC is a UK based education, training and citizenship consultancy supporting a range of higher education, public sector, business and community projects.

We are a consortium of experienced teachers, trainers, university lecturers and youth and community workers, with our work taking place primarily in London.

OUR WORK

We are passionate about learning and the chance to build connections, be that through our school training activities in areas such as anti-bullying and mentoring, the higher education courses we teach in reflective practice and global citizenship, the support we provide to community volunteering projects, or our project management of service-learning and student-internships activities, undertaken by US university students as part of their course of study in the UK.

NYUL SHINE PROJECT
FALL SEMESTER 2024/SPRING SEMESTER 2025

The SHINE Project connects NYUL students with London elementary schools in support of children’s learning in the classroom.

Students are invited to volunteer alongside teaching staff for 1.5-2 hours a week at a time that fits with their academic schedule. Classroom activities include one to one reading, writing tasks, class discussions, creative play, art and music projects, sports classes, school plays/performances, field trips and much more!

This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the British education system and gain a unique perspective on the cultural differences between the US and the UK. This programme is very popular with students and has a limited number of places available each semester.

Students are required to complete an application form for the project and will need to acquire a police background check from their permanent country of residence prior to their departure for London. Applicants are required to attend training with ETC at the start of the semester before volunteering can commence.

If you are interested in volunteering with the SHINE Project whilst studying in London in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025, please get in touch using the contact form at the bottom of this page to request an application form and further details.
